An Old Friend
January 29, 2008 by Cass
Last year I made a shawl/shrug for my mom. I swiped it back from her to a) get some good photos of it and b) check on how the yarn is wearing and 3) wear it myself for a day.
I carried this puppy around with me for 3 months while knitting it. It became my friend, my blankey, and in the end my albatross. But it turned out so lovely, it was worth every stitch.

I called it the Treasury Shawl, as I was using Barbara Walker’s stitch dictionaries as inspiration. I just knitted along, trying different stitches as I went.

This is my favorite part:

Here’s me doing some Tai Chi:

My mom may not get this thing back. It’s cozy.

Anyhow, Mom wears this all the time. The yarn, Berroco Love It, (colorway called “Salad Days”) is holding up mighty fine. Very little fuzz, no pilling at all, and the stitches are still nice and defined. I so so so adore this yarn so much.

Six months of wear:

This little worm was the only thing I could find that needed attention:

Wax on. Wax off.

I just can’t way enough about this yarn. I lurve it. (Love It!)
So pretty.
I wouldn’t want to give it back either.
I love that - did you write down the pattern? Or WOULD you write the pattern? I’d even pay!
I’m not even going to be subtle when I DEMAND your PATTERN!!! Even if it’s just “Pick ____ stitch patterns. CO ___ stitches. Knit StitchPattern1 for __ rows. Increase ____. Knit. Knit. Knit. Decrease…. etc etc.
Now I shall resort to begging. PLEEEEEEEEEASEEEE..
*falls on hands and knees*
Did I mention I can bribe you? I have access to Rowan Calmer!!! *waves yarn around your head*
I WANT the pattern too…..palllllleeeeeaaaasssseeeeee!!
It’s gorgeous!
With vodka on top?!
I remember when you were knitting away at that shawl. But wow, these pics are great– all the stitch detail shows up beautifully. It really is a treasure, and I know your mom loves it!
I too lurve it! I too wouldn’t mind a pattern, or at least a ‘the sleeves are the same width as the back, just seamed the length of the arm’ kind of instructions!
Wow this is beautiful! I was just checking out Berocco’s yarn for a certain Lady Eleanor shawl - This yarn has really wide stripes! That’s great! Methinks it’ll work nicely in the entrelac

And I concur with the others - pattern PLEEZ
WOWZERS! That is gorgeous Cass!!! I deserve a treat, i.e. the pattern. I began some behavioral changes in my diet the week before Christmas…doc weighed me yesterday and Voila! down 11 pounds!!! I would look almost as fabulous as you in this! :=)
I so love it…The colors, the stitches….oh how pretty and I think I would have found it extra hard to give up the first time around, let alone the second…
My dream is to be able to really knit, not just a facecloth, but to be able to make something like the Shrug…Now if it consists of Crochet, then I can do about anything…But of course I have been doing that for 31 yrs not just a couple of months.
Great Job…..
Cass it looks fabulous. I had just ‘found’ you while you were workin on it and asking about kitchnering the two halves together.
You got some fabulous photos of it. What beautiful weather you are having. I’m jealous!
The yarn stripes beautifully. g
Oh you’ve heard it a hundred times, I’m sure, but this is absolutely gorgeous. I’ve found my next big project!!
Hooray!
You’re my favorite knitter.
Oh wow that is gorgeous!
Very nice design! I love (lurve) the colours too!
Val
I have an idea. You keep it and I somehow mosey my ass over to your house and sneak in and snag it up from you. That’ll teach us something valuable about being greedy little bastards.
It is very beautiful…..good work!
That last pic are you dreaming of your modeling career
or just of a vodka cocktail?
Still good pic
Heather
I love the Shawl
I’m impressed with how well the yarn is holding up!
Really gorgeous! I love it.
It is so pretty and looks like it is wearing like iron. After all that work I am happy to see that the yarn wears well.
Very pretty! Did you make the ends into big sleeves or do you just have it wrapped around in the pictures?
I might have to attempt one of those - looks so warm…
I didn’t think I would like a shawl - or a shrug - but your size looks just perfect…
Nice job!! no, actually…an awesome job!! hee hee
It’s always nice to see how a yarn “wears” - thanks for the update -
…and love those pics…
Tonia–where have you been? I’ve been so worried about you!
Wow! It has worn well…. I’m impressed!!! And yes… it looks good and probably feels really good… so I think I would have a struggle giving it back too….
Hey babe, are these new pics of you? Your hairs look SO pretty!!!
I love it too. Just beautiful. Your mom is one lucky woman.
Just love the pattern for the shrug thibg, where did you get it?
Shona
Just love the pattern for the shrug thing, where did you get it?

That looks so good made into sleeve. I also hate the way shawls etc fall off your shoulders and that’s a good fix it! Nice colours too! And, check out your artsy pictures!!!!
[...] away… I gotta be honest that it’s likely not gonna happen. I wanted to have them done; last year’s gift was 3 months late. So I was bummed when I looked at the calendar last night and got honest with [...]
