I Wonder
April 29, 2008 by Cass
I don’t spend too awful much of my brain power pondering the ways of the universe; I need to conserve my limited brain power for more important things like walking and staying upright. But there are a few things I wonder about when I can spare the mind time:
-the little twist of toilet paper that Geek leaves in the potty. What’s up with that?
-what is the perfect ratio of Diet Cherry Limeade to vodka, and if I drink a bunch of the limeade to make room for the vodka, am I ruining the ratio?
-why didn’t Knitpicks stamp needles sizes on their harmony needles?
-how much wood would a wood chuck chuck and who was the first person to care?
-does Pippin really think I can be distracted by cookies when I ask her to finish her schoolwork?
-why does my mailman refuse to walk up my steps, instead tossing my packages underhanded onto the porch?
-why is the universe conspiring with the Knitting Goddess against me, and keeping me from getting socks knitted for my mom for mother’s day?
-why do I like this song so very much?
-how can I raise my rates without losing clients, and how much longer can I stay in business with the price of gas eating my profits?
-whatever will I do with my time now that everything is over?
It’s that last one that really occupies my thoughts today. Today is Day One of several days of downtime. I feel like I’ve been run over by an elephant and then trounced by an angry Midget Mania Wrestler. (Shout out to my homey, Lil Nasty! yo.) I survived several weeks of solid insanely busy time. Time for some PJ time!
The play went well last night, and here’s a shot of the Sea Monster costume. Note the Nature Cotton hair. (It’s a sad state of affairs when the most work I’ve done with yarn in weeks is making this costume.)
The girls and I will continue school work through the summer, ’cause that’s just how we roll. We’d rather take off time whenever we want here and there, instead of working solid through the school year and taking the summer off.
And now my blog can go back to my original intention, a knitting blog. I’ve missed my knitting, I’ve missed my yarn shopping, and I’ve missed reading about your knitting. I’m looking forward to having my time again.
I wonder what time the liquor store opens.
The sea creature costume came out great!! You are very talented with yarn, no matter the venue! What time does the liquor store open, cracked me up!
cute creature…who was that famous sea monster…not sigmund!
I love that song! Apparently it is impossible to find in stores as the record company didn’t think it would fly and did not make enough copies for sale.
I got a new bottle of Vod if needed, lol.
Exactly why you might want to reconsider moving back to CA…liquor stores here? 24 hours! hehe
Love the sea creature…awesome!
And now, if someone would please tell my Scooter why the neighbor insists on putting his trash into our container on garbage day, it would make his day a little easier!(Sanitation workers won’t pick up your trash if the lid is open due to being too full)
Lucky you…my mailman delivers my packages to the wrong houses!! Thank gawd the peeps are kind enough to bring them to me….enjoy your knitting/pj/booze time!
Love the sea monster!
Now wait a minute!!! You don’t know when the liquor store opens. Find out and tape the info to the refrigerator, the cabinet, on to the computer, in your wallet, have an id bracelet engraved with it, on the visor of your car, name your next pet 10 to 10 or whatever it is, Vital information like that should always be at your fingertips!!!
Crap I hit post and remembered A TATTOO!!! A lovely Vodka bottle and the hours right underneath! XOXOX
“-why does my mailman refuse to walk up my steps, instead tossing my packages underhanded onto the porch?” ….Ahem…NO RAILING?!?!?!?
*snort*
I love that costume!
Grace, I love the idea of naming a pet with the liquor store’s hours!
love the sea monster! very cute!
i should probably apologize in advance for the next bit, although since i’m an accountant, perhaps you’ve already dozed off… gas prices are insane everywhere. considering the service you provide, this could be a significant expense to your business. while your customers won’t like rates going up, they will understand that you inputs that gone up in price and that you need to cover your costs. how does your pricing compare to any competitors in the local area? are you at least competitive? your business is relational, so part of the reason you have repeat customers is because either they or their pets like you! and that’s why you get referals, too. they won’t opt for someone cheaper if they aren’t going to get the same service.
yes - i spent a good part of the day discussing budgets and justifying numbers. hey! WAKE UP!!!
“why didn’t Knitpicks stamp needles sizes on their harmony needles?”
omg WORD.
That costume is brilliant. And that kid makes a fantastic sea monster.
Wow - what a great costume! I’m sure that you will find something to fill your time now that the mad rush is over!
I know, that song sucks me in.
I like “Handlebars” too. Am I the only one that thinks this song sounds like Eminem.
As for gas prices, you may have to bite the bullet and just explain why you’re having to raise your prices. While your customers probably won’t be thrilled, I think most them will understand why this may be the only way for you to stay in business with gas prices sky rocketing. I bet the majority of your happy customers will stick with you (unless they’re having their own problems making ends meet. I wouldn’t be surprised if less people are traveling.)
i absolutely love that song. i first heard it in my spinning class at the gym. pretty funny to spin to that song.
the knitting gods are conspiring against me from finishing my mystic light shawl that is to be for my mom for mother’s day. she’s going to get it on the needles.
my fav drink - i’ve named it the arroyo breeze (as we live on arroyo drive). it was originally a pomegranite martini but i like lots of ice in my drinks so i had to give it a new name. 2/3 cup lemon vodka to 1 cup pom pomegranite juice (no other will do). try drinking only one.
btw, i love, love, love your blog. i read it every day. you’re a breath of fresh air.
raise your rates, everyone else is! If your clients love you, they’ll pay it.

We’re doing a “fuel surcharge” on everything now. To make you feel better, for well drilling jobs (two LARGE trucks) it’s $300.00. For the average service call (pickup truck) it’s $25.
I’m with everybody else. As high as gas is, people expect prices to go up a little on everything. I think that as long as it’s not a overly huge jump in price, you clients will totally understand. Besides, who else would give them quite as much entertainment along with the standard services?
Oh, and the sea monster totally rocks. Love it!
Ok, I just heard that song that you mentioned, the handlebars song, 2 days ago!! I was driving along, singing and laughing at the song and bumpin’… I fit right in here in DEEEEEtroit!!
lol, jk. But yea, I also like that song quite a bit!! And I too, don’t know why???…. *sigh*
