Contest is Closed
May 8, 2008 by Cass
Thanks for all of your well wishes for Casey on her birthday! And for the advice that you’ve passed along during my contest. The contest is now closed, and I’ll draw winners this afternoon. I need to go through and make sure I caught all of the blogs that mentioned the contest, and give bonus entries for going that extra mile. THANK YOU for your jokes, they made me laugh and snort and more than a few of them were read aloud to the whole famdamily. You guys are funny peeps. We should write a book.
We had a great day here yesterday, doing everything the Birthday Girl wanted.

Casey and I knitted on the back porch together for a while. It was tough, but I was willing to sacrifice myself for her, seeing as how it was her birthday and all.

The only thing that harshed our mellow was that our mountain is on fire. We can see the flames from our porch. Please send rain.

We also picked up some new babies that will live with us for several weeks:

That’s Pippin, with Sasquatch.

Uberdog meets Isabeau.
Back later with an update on the Mother’s Day socks, and to announce contest winners!
Aww peeps! Happy belated birthday casey!
Aren’t the babies adorable!? We’re getting rain, so I hope it came your way first. From what I can see on the weather, it came north of you though…
You’re just raising chicks??? I used to have my own chickens, I loved them, loved the eggs…Haylee loved the chickens too, and my god they loved her, she’d sit down in the grass and they would FLOCK around her….and just peck, and make that little muttering sound they make when they’re roosting for the night…*sigh* I miss my chickens.
I admire that you are strong enough to be so selfless and spend the day knitting with your daughter. Oh, if only I could do the same…… BTW, what she’s knitting is gorgeous and so far beyond what I’m capable of doing.
Way back when I lived on a farm with my family (and my ex) (who’s an evil sonofabitch who never made money on paper but is a multimillionaire) (*ahem*), we raised baby chicks one spring. We ended up with about 7 hens and a rooster (I don’t remember the fates of the others; we started with a dozen and I’ve blocked out the rest). They were free-range all the way, so every day started with an egg hunt.
Those damn creatures would peck out the peas just as they were ready to be picked, but they also ate the bugs, I guess. But that rooster–my son, about 2 or 3 at the time, would chase him with his tricycle till the rooster turned on him and went after him. Oh Lord, my poor little boy pedaling for all he was worth with that angry pecker after him. I laughed till I cried. But then, I cried a lot those days.
Ahh, look at the babies! Hubby just laughs at me as i want goats and chickens. He’s such a city boy! Yikes on the mtn. Glad your area looks lush and green…moisture!
Chicks with Chicks…and sticks!!
Great photos! And I sure hope you get some rain–soon!
So sorry about your mountain - Mom said it’s been very dry on the NC side too - I hope you get some rain soon.
Much rain your way!
Jeez Louise, we’ve got plenty of rain, we need some fire to dry it out a little around here. Maybe we could work out a deal?
Eeeek, I saw that fire last night in all its glory. Freaked me out! We had a lot of that up this way last year. Yes, send rain, indeed.
SO CUTE! Awwwww I want one!
I LOVE Casey’s bag!!
